Policy area of pending cases

The policy areas with which the procedures are concerned have also shifted over this period. Historically, the environment has proven the most contentious area for EU countries. At the end of 2019 the highest number (around 21 percent) of pending infringements concerned the environment.

Pending cases are cases that at the end of any given year are still open.
